Jarrett, sometimes what looks like a great deal can become a great nightmare. You might try logging onto "The Small Tractor FAQ" website. They do a great job of explaining the problems associated with some of the lesser known manufacturers. In their home countries these machines may be popular, and could very well be great machines that we could love, but these dealers have yet to establish the kinds of service reputations earned by Kubota, Deere, NH, Cub, etc. Imagine using your machine far from the barn, something minor breaks that can't be jury-rigged, and your dealer tells you the part isn't available. What then? True, not everyone can afford a new machine, but there are enough reputable dealers who sell great used ones. Ones they have parts for. ....

It looks to me like the Century is marketed by the same distributor that distributes Zetor and several other machines...including Velorex motorcycle sidecars. I don't know a thing about Century, but I don't think Zetor has anything to do with it. I wouldn't be lumping a known high quality machine like the Zetor with an unknown just because they have the same distributor or advertising agency. Zetor has never been popular, but they sure are good. They have been selling and improving the same well-designed tractors just about forever. Those guys believe in improvement through evolution!
But it is the Velorex sidecars on Zetor's website (http://www.zetor.com) which just knock me over. Now I know that they are made in the same country as Zetor, and apparently to the same evolution philosophy. But will they ever go away or change? I ordered one in 1968 and mounted it to an old BMW. Here they are again.. or is it 'still'?.... It sure looks like the same sidecar to me. In your choice of color as long as its black....and that same Draconian sense of style. Only difference I see is that mine had a sort of swoopy combination hubnut and hubcap, where this one has a black hubcap. But it looks like the wheel, spokes, tire, and wheel hub haven't changed at all. Maybe the old style hubnut is inside that new hubcap.... It wouldn't surprise me at all. One thing that I remember is uncrating the sidecar and marveling at all the spare parts and mounting kit components that came with it. There were almost enough parts there to build a second "chair".

I am the owner of a Zetor 5245 (4WD) with Allied 594 loader. The machine is an '84 with 1150 hours on it...I payed $6500. It weighs somewhere around 8000 pounds...and while I have only had it since the spring, I could not be happier. I certainly will never put a belly mount mower on it to try and mow faster than the neighbors (I don't have any anyways) :) but I CAN NOT WAIT until we get our first major snowfall in the Fingerlakes region of New York (supposed to get 7-12" tonight!). I have a Zetor dealer less than 1 hour from my house, 12 in New York State, not to mention the major Zetor USA business 3 hours away in Harrisburg, PA. The local dealer is both a nice guy and has a great mechanic.

Zetor's are painted green and yellow and sold overseas as JD's. I have read JD tried to buy them actually...not sure about that though.

In any event, while Century may not be Zetor, I would not hesitate to buy a Zetor because it is a Zetor...least not here in the North East.

For $6500, I have a machine that I can use on 44 wooded acres for just about anthing (besides mowing!).

Just had to vent a bit against the Zetor slamming. So Roger, did you ever build an extra seat for that sidecar?? I bet you did. :) Happy Holidays to all ....

Bruce....Seat?? What?? Oh...I get it; I should have explained that once upon a time us old time motorcyclists used to refer to a sidecar as a "chair" or "hack". So there really wasn't an extra seat or chair to be built. Though come to think of it, I would lose this bet because now I remember that I did build a bench seat for my house using the lumber from the Velorex packing crate. Excellent full dimension 15/16" x ~6" hard pine of some sort. ...no, I'm not making this up, I just got up and measured the wood on that very bench. I still have it. You must be psychic or something. Have a very mental holiday! ....

FYI: American Jawa is the Corp. who imports the Zetor for the U.S. The "Century" is the same tractor as the "Branson" which is imported by J-Bar of Trion GA. The tractor looks like a nice machine and If it survives, I'm sure American Jawa will support it like the Zetor. ....

Zetor is a great tractor for the money but you have hit the nail right on the head.....dealers and parts that newness goes real fast on farm machinery only the payments are constant. Zetor is the fanshise manufaturer in eastern Europe for John Deere....All Zetors are distrubuted through the port of Houston you can try to get info thst way. ....
